It was a really exciting Open Gardens event this year with gardens opening from South Avenue to Orchard Way with all kinds of varieties - from rolling lawns and views to a children's garden and ones with borders jam-packed with gorgeous blooms.  Teas and cakes were on offer at some so there was time to sit and enjoy the experience.  Plants and Cakes also on sale at some gardens.

Thank you garden openers, visitors, local traders and everyone else who supported us one way or another to raise  £5251.69  (£4751.69 on the day + £500 matched giving) towards our work from your 2017 for St. Peter and St. James Hospice. Open Gardens.

The Hospice is a registered charity and the In-patient Unit, Specialist Communnity Team and Day Hospice Service rely heavily on donations as they receive less than 17% their funding from the government and need to raise £7,200 per day!

Over 80% of patients are supported in their own home by Hospice Clinical Nurse Specialists.

£95 will pay for one home visit.

Some patients benefit from physiotherapy or complementary therapies at a cost of around £37 per session.

Counselling to patients and their loved ones - £44 will pay for a counselling session.

The average length of stay for an in-patient is around 13 days.  Each day costs around £390.

I hope this brings home how much your support is needed for this much-needed service that touches most of our lives at some time.
